Hi Daniel,
It is possible. But the question is the priority. Since we have some formats supported, we put the new development on high priority. Could you tell me why you need this format ?

Because I am writting my docs using DocBook and I am processing my DocBook docs with XEP. I won't use JPEG images and if I am using GIF images, XEP sometimes exits with an error message.
The error message is complaining about licensing issues that do exist regarding the GIF image format.
To avoid such problems I am trying to use PNG if possible.
