I downloaded the new version today, but was unable to get it to generate any class diagrams; although it appears to be reading the source files, the resulting diagram window is simply blank.
- Platform: WinXP, Eclipse 3.0.1, JDK 1.4.2_04
- Checked my existing plugins: had EMF 2.00, GEF 3.00, which I left in place
- Installed EclipseUML free edition (2.0.0.20041022) in the C:\eclipse directory; boxes were checked for EMF 2.01,
GEF 3.01 and UML 1.01
- Post-installation, noticed that I now have plugins registered for both EMF 2.00 and 2.01, GEF 3.00 and 3.01, etc. Not sure if there's a potential for conflict there.
Tried to generate a UML class diagram from existing code. Got the expected dialogs to specify the class, etc., but although EclipseUML appeared to be processing the diagram, no actual visual UML representation displayed on the screen.
M projects are not under source control, but I am getting an error that reads "The diagram can only be used by the creator. It is forbidden to share diagrams using the Free edition." Tried creating a new project / class from scratch without any version control, and then creating a new Class Diagram using File -> New -> Other -> but got the same error.
Any help / suggestions would be appreciated!
Allan

Okay, this time I completely uninstalled Eclipse, and then reinstalled both Eclipse 3.01 build and EclipseUML. Unfortunately, I'm still getting the same error. that reads "The diagram can only be used by the creator. It is forbidden to share diagrams using the Free edition."
Tried creating diagrams from existing projects/classes, and created several new projects / classes from scratch without any version control, but got the same error.
Can you recommend anything else I could try?

Hi,
I just downloaded the new Eclipse UML Free edition, and it works perfectly here.
Here is my configuration :
- Windows XP
- JDK 1.4.2_02
- Eclipse 3.0.1 with EMF/SDO 2.0.1, GEF 3.0.1 and UML2 1.0.1 plugins,
all downloaded from eclipse website.
I then installed the eclipseUML_E301_freeEdition_2.0.0.beta.20041022.jar auto installer successfully, with GEF, EMF and UML2 checkboxes unchecked.
Thanks to omondo for this new release

Thanks for the input Ghosties, but that didn't work either.
I tried re-installing Eclipse 3.0.1, then installing EMF 2.01, GEF 3.01 and UML2 1.01 from the Omondo site, then installing the new free version of EclipseUML, but am still getting the error message "The diagram can only be used by the creator. It is forbidden to share diagrams using the Free edition."
I am not sharing this diagram with anyone; it exists only on a stand-alone, non-networked machine, so I don't understand the source of the error.
The only difference between your configuration and mine is that you're running ver. 1.4.2_02 of the JDK, while I'm running 1.4.2_04. Don't know if that makes a difference, but I'll forward this to the support team, as well.
Thanks!
Allan

Hi,
This build use UML2 as UML metadata, instead of NSUML in version 1.x. So the migration from NSUML to UML2 is not yet supported.
You cannot use this edition to read the diagrams created with other versions.

hi julien,
Again, I appreciate the effort, but I'm not migrating from NSUML to UML2; this is a completely fresh re-install of:
- Eclipse 3.01
- Eclipse UML free edition
- EMF 2.01
- GEF 3.01
- UML2 1.01
I am working with a brand new project that I started from scratch with absolutely NO sharing or version control of any kind.
I have attached my simple project, TestUML, which was stored under c:\eclipse\workspace, for reference.
I'm running on Windows XP, and since I was unsuccessful with JDK 1.4.2_04, I also tried installing the latest version of the JDK 1.4.2_06, but still could not get EclipseUML to generate a diagram.
NOTE: Other people who have posted similar problems on the eclipse-plugins site have also been using JDK 1.4.2_04 or higher. People who posted with success on the new EclipseUML have reported using JDK 1.4.2_02. I wonder if it is a difference in the JDK itself?
Below is the Eclipse error log that is generated when I try to run EclipseUML:

We have received some reports about the error message:
"The diagram can only be used by the creator. It is forbidden to share diagrams using the Free edition.". In fact, there is a bug in our plugin when the login name contains a space. The fix is on going and will come out very soon.

The 10/26 update fixed the problem I was having -- everything works as expected now.
Thanks to julien for all the help -- great product!
